Claremore Oklahoma has a fairly temperate climate which makes it ideal for outdoor pursuits like golfing most of the year so if you are in the area and fancy a round then the closest course is the Heritage Hills Golf Course, situated on the outskirts of the city. The HHGC was opened to the public in 1977 and offers an 18 hole course surrounded by some of the state’s most beautiful countryside in a peaceful, tranquil setting. It is open from 8am daily until dark and can be located on 3140 Tee Drive just one mile west of Rogers State University. The course is operated under the direction of Rogers County Public Facilities Authority (CPFA) – a public trust with board members appointed by the county’s commissioner and in this respect became was the first golf course ever built with the use of money from the Farmers Home Administration. This makes it completely self-sufficient and to this day it does not receive any financial assistance from government bodies and is thus a legal non-profit organization although any donations received are subject to tax-deductions.
This is deemed to be a particularly challenging course as it was built on a combination of hills and flat land which is indicated by its course rating of 72.7 and slope of 129. Donald Sechrest of Tulsa designed the layout which includes water related obstacles on most of the holes (15 to be exact) and also incorporates thirty five sand bunkers and four grass ones. As a result, many golfers find themselves driving a misguided shot only for it to get lost in the vast wooded areas, slanting terrain or water hazards. The Clubhouse itself boasts splendid architecture while the fairways, tees and surrounding greens are sodded with top quality Bermuda and Penncross Bentgrass. The course also has a driving range and practice green, electric and pull carts for hire and a portable beverage facility which travels around the grounds providing refreshments for thirsty golfers. There are also on-course restrooms too and a 3,000 sq ft golf shop which has a wide range of stock to suit all your golfing requirements including all the top name golf brands, such as Titlest, Callaway, Ping, Cleveland, Bridgestone, Nike, Taylor Made, Ogio, Sun Mountain, and Oakley as well as much more.
The Claremore Men’s Golf Association and the Heritage Hills Women’s Golf Association are both based at this club and there are regular tournaments and events organized throughout the year for men, women and even junior golfers. Daily rates for golfers start around $23 (weekdays) for walkers and $36 for those riding in a cart. The cart rental fee alone is $24 per cart or $12 per person for 18 holes but it is worth noting that anyone riding in it – whether playing or not – will be subject to these charges however if you are only doing half the course then the fees are halved accordingly. There are also concessions for junior (under 17’s) and for seniors, over the age of 55.
