The halfway point for that era’s biggest sporting event was Claremore\, Oklahoma. \nMost of the field of world class runners included participants from over 24 countries could not endure the 84 grueling days of the 3\,423 mile Trans-Continental Footrace. The Mother Road crossed through the Mojave Desert and wound along vast plains\, offering blistering heat\, sleet and snow.
