DESCRIPTION:Steeped in Tradition “Wild Onion Feast”  \nThe Indian Women’s Pocahontas Club Higher Education Scholarship Fundraiser  \nSpring is near and excitement is in the air. It is time to go to the creek where the blanket of brown leaves protects the wild onions.  Even the girls from the female seminaries gathered wild onions (without permission)\, going together to forage for their first green of spring.  There was so much excitement! They used their hands to rake the brown blanket of leaves back to reveal the tender green blades of wild onions peeking out.  Carefully they were dug with a sharpened stick to leave the root system for the next year’s harvest.   The wild onions grow close to running creek water\, where we can wash the dirt from the roots. \nDigging only enough Sassafras roots to boil for a special aromatic tea\, and home we go to clean the wild onions\, gather eggs\, and prepare a feast.  This tradition has been shared with family\, friends\, and neighbors\, to bring the community together. \nThe Wild Onion Feast celebrates the beginning of Spring and the gathering of our Indian Women’s Pocahontas Club members together\, along with community to raise money for our Higher Education Scholarship Program. \n  \nMarch 16\, 2023 – 12:00 – 2:00 p.m. “Wild Onion Feast” \n\nLive Auction – IWPC Higher Education Scholarship Fundraiser\n\n\nClaremore First Methodist Church\, 1615 N. DESCRIPTION:ShamRockin’ Family Fun day is hosted by The Rogers County Health Department (RCHD).  This year the event will take place on Friday\, March 22nd from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Claremore Community Center located at 2301 N Sioux. At the second annual ShamRockin’ Family Fun Day\, families can enjoy outdoor games and activities.   We will have bubbles\, chalk art\, rock painting\, yoga\, balloons\, cornhole\, badminton\, raffles\, giveaways and more. This is an all-ages event and is free and open to the public. Free car seat checks and installations will be provided by certified technicians\, and a limited number of free car seats will be available. Those interested MUST call to schedule an appointment in advance of the event. For an appointment\, call (918) 341-3166. The booths will feature the RCHD’s many health programs (Children First\, Child Guidance\, SoonerStart\, WIC and more).  Some of our community partners will also have a booth set up. DESCRIPTION:The Claremore Kennel Club is set to host their annual Dog Show again this year!  Head over to the Claremore Expo Center and watch as local and regional dogs showcase the finest qualities of their breed.  The Claremore Kennel Club’s Annual Dog Show is March 30th & March 31st! There will not only be plenty of beautiful dogs\, but vendors specializing in pet and show supply merchandise will be on hand as well.  There will also be a Microchip Clinic & Eye Clinic on site too. \nWith the many breeds represented and competing\, there is a category for every dog lover. This event is fun for the entire family and as always\, admission is free. Watch as the different breeds compete for the top spot in their individual category. As these breeds compete\, cheer as your favorites strut their stuff vying for the coveted Best in Show title.  There are also many other prestige awards! \nAbout the Claremore Kennel Club \nThe Claremore Kennel Club is a not for profit group of dog owners interested in promoting the sport of purebred dogs. Their objective is to promote the usefulness of all dogs (purebred or mixed breeds) in today’s society. Claremore Kennel Club conducts All Breed dog shows in accordance with the rules of the American Kennel Club.  They also promote cooperation and good sportsmanship among members in the training and exhibition. \nThe Claremore Kennel Club formed in 1983. The club supports the community by teaching classes in obedience\, puppy kindergarten\, and Conformation. The club also holds 2 All Breed AKC Licensed dog shows per year.\n\nThe Rogers County Fair provides the CKC with booth space to educate the public in responsible pet ownership. Members of the CKC are passionate and respectful of the AKC breed standards.  They exhibit and breed quality purebred dogs to AKC breed standards set forth by each breed’s National Dog Club.  Claremore Kennel Club does not endorse breeding and wholesaling of purebred dogs.
