Introducing Energy Efficient Claremore

The temperatures are shifting, and it is finally starting to feel like fall in Oklahoma. Many of us have flipped on our heaters in preparation for the colder weather. However, this winter may look a little different as experts are warning that the cost of energy for U.S. households will likely increase.

According to a recent report released by the Energy Information Administration, home heating costs are predicted to rise because of supply chain issues, higher fuel prices and increased demand.

To ensure our community has the information needed to combat rising energy prices, the City of Claremore has created a new online resource called Energy Efficient Claremore. This platform will provide residents with tips and conservation methods to preserve energy and lower costs this winter. In addition, it will provide a variety of resources, ranging from programs for financial assistance to interviews with local experts.

A few easy conservation measures to keep in mind as we approach cooler temperatures:

  • Seal leaks around doors and windows. Apply weather stripping or caulk to seal gaps and cracks around windows and doors to stop air leaks and prevent energy loss.
  • Reduce the temperature on your water heater. Set the temperature on your water heater to 120 degrees Fahrenheit or put it on the “warm” setting.
  • Change or clean your filters. A clean filter on your furnace can lower your energy consumption by 5 percent to 15 percent. Dirty filters cost more to use and overwork the equipment.
  • Choose LED lights for your home and decorations. LEDs are very low in wattage, requiring as little as 10 percent of the energy used by incandescent bulbs, and can save 90 percent more energy in your home or business.

You can find additional tips on the Energy Efficient Claremore page, which can be accessed here. We will frequently update the page to ensure residents have the most current and up-to-date information. We encourage you to check back frequently throughout the winter season.
