These materials are considered donations / gifts and are subject to the all relevant guidelines within the Collection Development Policy, including the fact that they cannot be returned.

For complete guidelines please see the donation section of the Collection Development Policy Gifts/donations are not itemized or evaluated for tax purposes, although a receipt showing a general donation may be given upon request.

Memorial Donations

Donations of money for the purchase of memorial books or special gifts to the library are welcome. However, the library cannot accept previously purchased items, as placement of that item in the collection cannot be guaranteed.

For a contribution of $40 or more, the library will order an appropriate book. A donor may specify a preferred age level, format, or broad subject area (fiction, non-fiction, mystery, etc.). A letter of acknowledgement of the donation will be sent to the family, and a book plate noting the name of the remembered/honored person and the donor will be placed in the front of the book.

Just as all donations / gift items / memorial items are subject to the guidelines of the Collection Development Policy, they are also subject to de-selection. While every effort will be made to retain these items within the current guidelines set forth, there should be no expectation that any item is to be considered a permanent part of the collection.

About the Library

Early History

Claremore’s first library dates back to the early 1900’s, when books were checked out from a local dental office. In 1914, the Claremore Federation of Women’s Clubs solicited contributions from the public to enhance library services in the community. 600 volumes were placed in a room at the Court House, and a librarian was hired for an annual salary of $225.

First Building

During the 1930s, plans were developed to build a municipal library building. Funds for construction library were obtained from the sale of the land donated to the city by one of its most beloved citizens, humorist Will Rogers. After Will Rogers’ death in 1935, it was decided to honor his memory by naming the municipal library after him. The structure on Weenonah Avenue was dedicated in 1936 as Will Rogers Library. That building provided citizens of Claremore library services for over 50 years.

Today

The current building, dedicated in 1994, retains the name Will Rogers Library. Citizens of Claremore and Rogers County have access to a vast selection of E-resources, 24/7 wireless Internet access, thousands of print, audio, and DVD selections, as well as a variety of ongoing children’s and adult programs.
