CLAREMORE – A $4.6 million project to replace the pavement on SH-20 between the SH-66 junction and the I-44/Will Rogers Turnpike began in early July 2021. Traffic has been narrowed to one lane in each direction on east and westbound SH-20 in this corridor while pavement removal work gets underway.

While it is normal for various utility lines to be placed in the highway rights-of-way, crews have recently discovered some lines possibly in conflict with the project. The Oklahoma Department of Transportation is erring on the side of caution and temporarily halting work so that utility providers can perform line location surveys. These surveys will help ensure there are no unforeseen service interruptions to the residences and businesses in the corridor which rely on these utilities. Depending on the findings over the next few weeks, the providers may also arrange for some line relocations which could take up to several months to complete.

As areas of pavement have already been removed in the corridor, the current narrowed configuration of east and westbound SH-20 will remain in place until further notice. Additional updates will be provided as details become available.

The overall project was expected to complete in spring 2022; however, this will be adjusted based on the survey findings.
