“The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others.”
This famous quote by Mahatma Gandhi perfectly epitomizes the role of public servants. I am incredibly grateful to the men and women who sit on our City Council and dedicate their time to bettering our community.
The filing period for municipal office candidacy is quickly approaching. Those interested in running for public office must complete a filing packet and submit their information to the Rogers County Election Board between February 6 and February 8. The office will be open daily from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. for candidate filing.
There will be five council seats on the April 4 ballot. Each council ward will have one four-year term opening. Ward 1 will also have a two-year term seat due to a mid-term appointment in 2021. In addition, Claremore citizens will select an individual to serve as our City’s mayor, leading the council for the next four years.
Residents located within City limits will have the opportunity to vote on each city council position. This includes all five council seats and the mayoral race. The Ward 1 seats will be listed on the ballot and voted upon separately.
Those interested in pursuing a public office position must be registered to vote. In addition, each individual must have lived in Claremore for more than six months and in their respective wards for no less than 90 days. Mayoral candidates may reside within any ward.
The election will take place on April 4, 2023, and the polls will be open from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. New councilors will be sworn into office at the City Council meeting on May 1.
A ward map is available on claremore.com. Prospective candidates can find filing packets and additional information on the Rogers County Election Board website.
I applaud all those willing to step up to serve in this capacity and appreciate their vision for our community
Enjoy the warmer weather this weekend!
All my best,
John W. Feary
Claremore City Manager
