Pet Licensing & Permits

Pet owners in Claremore City Limits are required by ordinance to have their pet licensed. The licenses are issued at the Claremore Animal Shelter at 815 W Ramm Rd. The pet owner must provide proof of current rabies vaccination and pay one of the following licensing fees:

  • Spayed/Neutered animals – Tag fee is $5 and this is good for the life of the animal.  Proof of sterilization must be provided. Replacement tags are $5.
  • Intact animals – Tag fee is $20.   Intact permit mush be purchased each yearly. Intact permit is $100 the first year and $75 each following year.

Commercial Permits

The city ordinance allows for 5 pets per household, no more than 3 of which can be dogs. Vendors and breeders may apply for a Commercial Animal Establishment permit. The application must be notarized and accompanied by cash, money order or cashier’s check. An application processing fee of $20 shall be assessed for the initial application. The permit fee shall be $50 annually.

A background check will be conducted to determine if the applicant has been convicted of animal abuse or cruelty charges in the past ten years. You will be notified of acceptance or denial within 30 days of the application date. Check city ordinances for details type of animals are permitted.

Hobbyist Exemption Permits

Hobbyist Exemption Permits are available for pet owners who have more than 5 specialized animals (such as hunting, service, rescuer). A $50 fee will be charged for the initial permit. Each subsequent renewal shall be $10.

Spay / Neuter Information

It is required by city ordinance to either spay or neuter your dogs and/or cats or get an intact permit.

Spaying or neutering has many benefits for your pet.  Not only a preventative of accidental litters, but can benefit with long-term health and behavior issues, and may help make them less likely to roam.

The Claremore Animal Shelter partners with a Claremore Veterinarian for a low income spay/neuter program. To qualify, your household income must under $40,000. Bring income verification to the shelter to complete the paperwork. The cost is $65 for dogs and $55 for cats and includes spay/neuter, rabies vaccination and deworming. Only cash is accepted.

Spay Oklahoma, Inc. out of Tulsa that provides low-cost spays and neuters for pets whose owners who earn $35,000 or less per year.
